Audit and Inspection: BRC IOP Packaging Standard

Certification to the BRC/IOP Packaging Standard is now a fundamental requirement of many leading food retailers and manufacturers. Developed by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and Institute of Packaging, the standard is designed to assess the ability of packaging manufacturers to comply with food safety requirements and demonstrate due diligence. The standard operates at two levels to allow its use for both food contact and non-contact packaging materials with appropriate requirements in place at each level.

The principal requirements of the Packaging Standard are the adoption of risk assessment, quality management system and control of product quality, factory environmental standards and personnel.

Assessments usually take 1 to 1.5 days following a period of 28 days to address any non conformances which is required to get a certificate.

All CMi assessors have a thorough understanding of the packaging industry. Assessors are selected on the basis of their experience in the different sectors of the packaging industry e.g. paper and board, glass, plastics, metal and foils.
